A message to teachers

It's been several months since the air races, so we thought we'd reach out and say hello and bring you educators and administrators up to speed with a few exciting developments.

For starters, we're officially operating as Pathways to Aviation. We'll always be the Reno Air Racing Foundation, but we're doing business in our new name. With that, we have a new and far more interactive website - www.PathwaystoAviation.org. We encourage you to visit and join the mailing list.

A few more things to note for you.

  1. Deadline to apply for the Fred Michel Scholarship is March 31. The scholarship awards students attending (or about to attend) colleges, where they're pursuing aviation degrees. CLICK HERE for details and to apply.
  2. Our annual speakers forum is April 8. Our keynote speaker is Howard Putnam, former CEO of Southwest Airlines. You're invited, as are students. There's no cost to attend, but you must RSVP. CLICK HERE for details and to save a seat in the 400-person room.
  3. We're launching a Student Ambassadors program. It's available to middle and high school students, who are interested in aviation. CLICK HERE for details and to indicate interest.

Last, the 2015 Air Races are just six months away. We're hoping to increase our footprint at the races in a significant way. As we're working to make that happen, one thing is for certain. Field trips to the air races will be more organized and all classes conducted in our tent will be tied to Common Core and NextGen standards. We're busy identifying courses, with three already in development...relating to rocketry, airplanes, and drones. We encourage you to email Pete Parker, our executive director, with a Pre-RSVP, so we can begin developing the right course matter and experience for you.

All classes will be scheduled, in advanced, and facilitators and aviation experts will be available for involvement. We recommend that you book your field trip, at your earliest convenience, to secure spots in our Aviation Learning Center Classroom. Official field trips will be booked (starting now) for Wednesday, September 16 through Friday, September 18. First come, first served.

We're working on a number of exciting initiatives, which may interest you. Stay close to our website for the latest developments.
