The Drone Zone was located in the Pathways to Aviation Learning Center at the 2016 Reno Air Races. The move provided greater opportunities for aviation enthusiasts of all ages to truly experience the world of aviation in one location.
The intent of the Drone Zone was to expose and educate the public about UAV’s, what they are and aren’t and gave the public the opportunity to see the static displays and ask questions. There is a great deal of interest in UAV’s with a new generation, so this was a wonderful opportunity to get young people out to the National Championship Air Races and the Drone Zone.
The National Championship Air Races welcomed approximately 3,100 school children to the Drone Zone during race week where there were also educational classes and activities on aviation.
This was an opportunity to get kids excited about these technologies and think about applying what they’re learning in their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) classes as a path to college.
