Session number two of the Reno Flight Plan to present the aviation industry, it leaders, and opportunities to students went better than anticipated.
The largest number of students, to date, assembled at the Nevada Wing-Civil Air Patrol building to meet outstanding local aviation executives and learn what's needed to land great jobs.
Special guests speakers included Katie Greenwood, Director of Noise Abatement at the Truckee Tahoe Airport, Warren Rapp, CEO of the Nevada Technology Corporation, and Don Bergin, President of Blast Deflectors Inc. Each presented industry trends, new discoveries, current projects, future needs, and skills desired for employment in the fields they manage. They also shared their professional journeys and answers to questions from students.
Eric Henry and Pete Parker then guided students on a though-provoking discussion on discovering their hard and soft skills, as well as they'll want to attain as they progress toward their careers. Unexpected occurrences were the offering of shadowing opportunities and internship application invitations to the students, several of whom accepted the offerings.
The students were encouraged to prepare for the resume writing workshop, which takes place on March 20. They can create resumes and send to Pete for review in advance of the workshop. The next session will feature a new set of industry leaders, who will share their stories and career planning advice.
