Pathways to Aviation Bulletin - February 2017

We have exciting news to share. We're on a monumental flight and we're so glad so many people are with us on this journey.

Aviation Career & Mentoring Program off to a great start!

Our new careers and mentoring program is ready to take flight, going better than anticipated! We have 15 students registered to participate in the four session workshop series, which begins this Wednesday, February 22. These high school and college students are interested in pursuing careers in the aviation industry. The first session will focus on Starting a Career, where we'll discuss the initial steps students should take toward their career options.

Reno State of the City Address a big hit!

City of Reno Mayor Schieve's State of the City Address was an extraordinary success for the future of aviation on Thursday, January 26. Held at Atlantic Aviation, the Address gathered the area's business, community, and civic leaders to showcase the accomplishments during the 2016 calendar year. The location couldn't have been any better. The growth of both commercial and general aviation was a key factor in the event being held in Atlantic's hangar, which could easily handle over 600 attendees.

Students from the Galena High School Aeronautical Engineering program assembled at Atlantic Aviation for a two-hour educational experience. The group of 26 students took a tour of Atlantic Aviation, then participated in a presentation made by Atlantic's General Manager, Patrick Wink. Not only did they learn about general aviation, they shared their career interests with Patrick, who shared keen insight into what they can expect as they navigate to college or directly to the workforce.

All in all the State of the City Address was a big hit for Pathways to Aviation. Many thanks go to Mayor Schieve and the Reno City Council, as well as our co-partners, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and Atlantic Aviation.

Educational Programs exist thanks to funding

Programs like Pathways Days (field trip experiences) and the Nevada Aviation Careers Initiative (careers and mentoring) are funded by the generosity of people, businesses, and foundations in our community. These donors see the value of extended learning opportunities for young men and women seeking careers in STEM-related professions, particularly aviation. If you're interested in "investing" in aviation's future workforce, please click here to make an online and 100% tax-deductible contribution.

The programs are also funded through Reno Air Races license plate sales. Proceeds from each license plate sale directly fund programs to inform, inspire, and engage K-12 and college students to the aviation industry. Click here to learn more about the Reno Air Race license plate program.
