Our friend, Mike Crowell...CEO of the Reno Air Racing Association...publicly announced new events and expects growth at the 2016 National Championship Air Races.
If the 2015 Reno Air Races is any indication, Mike and the RARA team are making great moves!
Mike announced, at last night's press conference at Pinocchio's, that the 2015 Reno Air Races netted $100,000...a strong increase compared to the projected $630,000 loss. Strong leadership and wise decision-making, we believe, accounted for the turn-around. The large room full of media, volunteers, racers, staff, board, and community leaders learned of changes for the 2016 event.
Among the new attractions will be the Blue Angels. This will definitely bring more patrons to the air race campus and, at the same time, provide an awe-inspiring show to those who've been coming to the air races for some time. To get the Blue Angel buzz started early, we've selected a former Commander of the Blue Angels as the keynote speaker at the 8th Annual Pathways to Aviation Speakers' Event. During his presentation, Mike mentioned that RARA had a foundation and that it was making big strides toward bringing school children out to the Reno Air Races. In fact, he announced that Pathways expects to bring 5,000 K-12 students out for this year's races. That's an increase from the 3,100+ students we brought in 2015. We're truly thankful for Mike's confidence in us and we truly look forward to an incredible week of field trips.
He and the RARA board recognize the value provided by Pathways to help provide the "wow" factor to air race patrons. At the press conference, Mike informed the audience that Pathways would be intimately involved with the Checkered Flag Club and the National Aviation Heritage Invitational...two important opportunities to enhance the air race experience for patrons.
We wish the Reno Air Racing Association all the best for the upcoming air races and we thoroughly enjoy partnering with them in many aspects of this great community event.
