What a launch!

What a launch!

January 29, 2019

The 2019 launch of the Futures in Aerospace program was spectacular!

Pathways to Aviation hosted three workshops in three days. In total, 55 high school and college students were introduced to aviation executives, learned of career journeys, and received valuable advice. It was an incredible start to the program’s third season, which attracted roughly twice the number of students as last year.

On Tuesday, the Reno Flight Plan welcomed a full room of students and parents, who listened to presentations from four amazing leaders from the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. We’re thankful for the experiences and insight shared by Marily Mora (CEO), Dean Schultz (COO), Dan Bartholomew (Director of Planning and Operations), and Hasaan Azam (Manager of Air Service and Cargo). Simply inspiring!

On Wednesday, the Carson Flight Plan attracted students from Carson and Reno, who learned about airport operations from Ken Moen (Airport Manager) and Gary Province (Airport Operations and Maintenance).

On Thursday, the Truckee Tahoe Flight Plan attracted a full room of students, who participated on a tour of the terminal building and learned a great deal from Kevin Smith (General Manager) and Mark Covey (Pilot and Passenger Outreach Coordinator).

In addition to the industry leader presentations and job searching advice, each student received a specially-made career planning workbook and an invitation to pursue the special Futures in Aerospace scholarship. They also received a homework assigning…to write into their workbooks all the hard and soft skills they believe they possess.

Each student is encouraged to return for the next round of workshops, which will focus on career interests and skills identification. The workshops will be highlighted by presentations made by industry executives.

  • Tuesday, February 5 – Reno Flight Plan – Civil Air Patrol Building
  • Thursday, February 14 – Truckee Tahoe Flight Plan – Truckee Tahoe Airport
  • Wednesday, February 20 – Carson Flight Plan – Carson Airport

Students may attend any and all of the workshops. They’ll receive scholarship points for their attendance and participation, while meeting outstanding industry leaders.
