The annual EAA Young Eagles First Flight Day introduces 100+ local children to aviation by showing them what pilots do both on ground and in the air. Each child will enjoy a pancake breakfast before going through a pre-flight session. Upon completion, the children will enjoy a free 20-minute flight with EAA-certified pilots. For most children, this will be the first time flying. An open house will also take place for the children and their families, featuring interactive displays and demonstrations in the areas of aviation, aerospace, and unmanned aerial systems.
The events are organized by local Experimental Aircraft Association chapters, with promotional assistance from Pathways to Aviation. The event is open to the entire community, at no cost, yet only children will be eligible to fly (must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is dedicated to growing participation in aviation. The EAA strives to make aviation easier, more accessible, more rewarding, and more fun – igniting and nurturing interest by embracing "The Spirit of Aviation" in all that it does. EAA encourages and supports clear pathways that ignite and nurture interest; a welcoming and supportive environment; opportunities to participate in all aspects of aviation; making aviation more accessible; and, the camaraderie and community of aviators and enthusiasts.
